Polymorphonuclear leukocytes

  • Left, wet mount examination.
  • Right, trichrome stain.
  • These cells are often mistaken by inexperienced microscopists as amoebic cysts. The fact that the areas taken up by the nucleus and the cytoplasm under the microscope are equivalent (1:1 ratio) eliminates any doubt about the identity of these white blood cells.
