- Entamoeba gingivalis was the first parasitic amoeba of humans to be described. It was recovered from the soft tartar between the teeth. it can also appear in sputum. so since morphologically it is very similar to E. histolytica, it’s important to distinguish between E.gingivalis and E.histolytica since E.ginivalis is not pathogenic while E. histolytica is pathogenic and possible cause of pulmonary abscess.
- The trophozoite measures approximately 5 to 15 μm, and the cytoplasm most often contains ingested leukocytes, and there is no cyst phase for this parasite.
