S. marcesens, S. liqefaciens, S. odorifera are most clinically significant
Pathogenesis and Infectious Disease:
- disease occurs primarily in debilitated individuals
- S. marcescens is the most common isolte
- an opportunist associated with pneumonia, bacteremia, septicemia, endocarditis, localized cellulitis, burn infections, and urinary tract infections developing from indwelling catheters
Test Results:
- Lactose fermentation: positive (pink colonies) – late fermenters
- HE/XLD : positive (yellow or colorless colonies)

- S. odorifera : v/+/v/+ dirt, musty like potatoes

- H2S : negative
